the milky way galaxy is over 100,000 light years wide. it is called by spiral galaxy because it has long arms which spin around like a giant pin wheel. our sun is a star in one of the arms.

nebula

nebula is a gigantic cloud of dust and gas, mainly of  hydrogen and helium gases. our sun originated from a nebula some 4600 million years ago.
